March 11, 2019 at 01:32 pmDaniel Lichtblau is Wired to Virtual Reality
March 3, 2019 at 10:40 amI have Daniel Lichtblau to thank for providing me a valuable basic background in non linear editing. Watching over his shoulders, I learned how to use Final Cut 7 as he kindly assisted me to edit my very first documentary short back at Bard.
And he’s still up to really cool stuff as a filmmaker:

Afghanistan journalism continues to suffer after its deadliest attack – Lynne O’Donnell
October 24, 2018 at 07:15 amFor a number of important years my colleague Lynne O’Donnell contributed to the world’s understanding of the long running conflict in Afghanistan in her capacity as the bureau chief of the AP.
Despite having now moved on to new horizons for herself, Lynne continues to share her expert insight and understanding.
And in this article for the Columbia Journalism Review, she has taken the time to write movingly and shine a light on one of the most important unsung heroes of the new start, the Afghan free press:

I encourage any of my friends and colleagues with an interest in Afghanistan and the dangerous risks journalists take to cover the news we consume to check it out.

Marawi: The End of the Beginning
September 24, 2018 at 06:56 amEarlier this year I was given an opportunity to collaborate with award winning journalist / filmmaker and longtime colleague Carsten Stormer. I am now able and proud share our effort together:
Marawi: The End of the Beginning
Looking at the aftermath of the Marawi siege here in the Philippines, this documentary short features exclusive interviews with people at the heart of this conflict, including MILF Commander Superemo, a former ISIS child soldier under the alias “Abdul” and the widow a commander from the Ansar Khalifa Philippines (AKP) terrorist group.
Expertly edited by Drea Estrellado, this documentary reveals how even though ISIS may have been routed on the battlefield in Marawi, the long war for hearts and minds of the people in Mindanao is likely just beginning…
