DANCE UNTIL YOU SHATTER YOURSELF by Daniel Darwin

October 26, 2018 at 08:36 am

Last night I was able to make a performance of DANCE UNTIL YOU SHATTER YOURSELF by Daniel Darwin.

It was an amazing ride and I am so happy I got to share this experience with my good friends Omar and Marina.

Produced by the team at FringeMNL, with the support of the The Japan Foundation, Manila, this is part of the ongoing 1SA – Solo Arts Platform event. You can learn more about it here:

Congrats to you and your team at Fringe MNL, Charissa! Am so happy for you all. And it was a special treat running into you Kalila and your precious Little Princess. <3

Afghanistan journalism continues to suffer after its deadliest attack – Lynne O’Donnell

October 24, 2018 at 07:15 am

For a number of important years my colleague Lynne O’Donnell contributed to the world’s understanding of the long running conflict in Afghanistan in her capacity as the bureau chief of the AP.

Despite having now moved on to new horizons for herself, Lynne continues to share her expert insight and understanding.

And in this article for the Columbia Journalism Review, she has taken the time to write movingly and shine a light on one of the most important unsung heroes of the new start, the Afghan free press:

I encourage any of my friends and colleagues with an interest in Afghanistan and the dangerous risks journalists take to cover the news we consume to check it out.

Marawi: The End of the Beginning

September 24, 2018 at 06:56 am

Earlier this year I was given an opportunity to collaborate with award winning journalist / filmmaker and longtime colleague Carsten Stormer. I am now able and proud share our effort together:

Marawi: The End of the Beginning

Looking at the aftermath of the Marawi siege here in the Philippines, this documentary short features exclusive interviews with people at the heart of this conflict, including MILF Commander Superemo, a former ISIS child soldier under the alias “Abdul” and the widow a commander from the Ansar Khalifa Philippines (AKP) terrorist group.

Expertly edited by Drea Estrellado, this documentary reveals how even though ISIS may have been routed on the battlefield in Marawi, the long war for hearts and minds of the people in Mindanao is likely just beginning…

7 weeks in 18

July 1, 2018 at 03:58 am
This Sunday marks the end of a 7 week documentary production that I have been involved with as a producer / production manager under my production label with Terry Garcia, Mission Programs.

I would first like to thank my colleague Noël Lagman Naguiat for bringing me abroad this production, this work experience has been a privilege and it would not have been possible without his trust and support.

On this project I was happy to reconnect with and engage my longtime collaborator Anthon Reyes, thanks to my colleague Javier Abola I was introduced to skilled sound field recordist John Paul Bass Nazareno and look forward to working with him again soon. And it was a pleasure meeting up and coming filmmaker Vinzon Nadurata Toribio, a young man I am confident will make a contribution to the media industry here in Manila.

Without wanting to get ahead of our client, I am looking forward to sharing the results of this team’s hard work later in September this year. Welcome back to Manila team! Hope to see you all again for the next one!

Ahmad jan. <3

While working at Tolo TV I was very proud to meet and work with filmmaker Ahmad Khaan. A fine, hard working young man, I had the pleasure of working with Ahmad on a season of Sesame Street Afghanistan (Baghch-e-Simsim)

Recently, he shared with me his work directing an episode of a new drama series for Tolo TV: Khate Sewom.

Almost 600,000 views later, I am very happy to see Ahmad being being provided opportunities to exercise his great skills as a film director.

Keep going Ahmad jan. <3 🙂
